In 1723, 300 years ago, the foundation stone was laid for the extension to the university hall near the Oude Markt, the so-called REGA wing. This is a wonderful opportunity to highlight and celebrate the story of this wing and the man who initiated its construction and gave it his name. Professor Hendrik Rega, a Leuven native. The tour takes you through his birthplace, the place where he attended school, studied and taught medicine, and the place where he lived during his rectorship. The tour also recounts the eventful life of this Rega wing: its academic prestige, but also the looting during the French period, the fire during WWI, and the reconstruction.
